Wisconsin GOP still hasn’t learned lesson

By Kelly Fenton

We already see the impact of newly drawn fair maps with the GOP’s willingness to at least pretend to address the urgent crisis regarding PFAs. After all, Republicans understand that their seats aren’t ensured in perpetuity by grotesquely drawn maps and recognize they finally have to be responsive to their constituents.

But, as their woefully insufficient bill demonstrates, the lesson will be hard-earned and slow to sink in.

The Republicans have been sitting on $125 million in PFAs funds for nearly a year after Gov. Evers signed the last budget. And guess what? Their new legislation still doesn’t release the funds to address these urgent needs.

Furthermore, the bill provides protections for polluters responsible for the contamination in the first place and hamstrings the Department of Natural Resources from providing necessary oversight.

Gov. Evers, who understands how critical it is these funds get released to protect the health of Wisconsinites, vetoed this cynical bill and called a special session of the budget committee so that the funds that have shamelessly remained unspent, are released.

Well, once again, the GOP refused to even show up.

Which is why it is so important we replace these folks who have done next to nothing for 15 years with Democrats, starting with electing Emily Tseffos in the 56th assembly district and Kris Alfheim in the 18th senate district and reelecting Rep. Lee Snodgrass in Assembly 52.

Because the GOP hasn’t learned its lesson yet. And it’s up to us to teach them.
